How We Rate Women’s Health Apps
The Problem…

We review every app across five key areas that matter most to your wellbeing:
Medical Credibility
We check whether the app is backed by reliable evidence, qualified professionals, and current medical guidelines.
Apps that rely on vague claims or unverified science do not score well.Ethical Standards
We look at how the app treats its users, from marketing honesty to inclusivity and transparency.
Apps that empower women with honest information rank higher.Data Privacy and Protection
Your data should always be safe.
We check how your personal information is stored, shared, and secured.
Apps that share or sell data without clear consent lose points.User Accessibility
Health information should be easy to understand, regardless of background or ability.
We assess readability, navigation, inclusivity, and accessibility features.Behavioural Impact
We look at how the app makes you feel and act.
Does it support healthy habits, confidence, and self-awareness, or does it add pressure and confusion?
The best apps empower you to make informed decisions, not depend on algorithms.

Every app we review is assessed using our independent evaluation framework, designed by doctors and software specialists.
We rely only on publicly available information and verified third-party sources.Transparency matters. If an app doesn’t clearly share how it works, that impacts its score.
We consider the real experiences of hundreds of women using these apps. Their feedback helps us understand how each app performs in real life — from ease of use and accuracy to how supported or confident users feel. That insight is a key part of how we calculate each score.
Each app is reviewed against 74 key questions focused on safety, transparency, and trustworthiness—the issues women care about most. Our reviewers then calculate a balanced score across five categories: medical credibility, ethics, data privacy, accessibility, and behavioural impact.
We have now automated our review process however each review is checked by our clinical team for accuracy.
-
Every app receives an overall score out of five stars, giving you a simple, trustworthy way to compare:
★★★★★ Excellent – Clinically credible, transparent, and safe.
★★★★ Good – Strong in most areas, with room to grow.
★★★ Fair – Some positive signs, but limited evidence or unclear data practices.
★★ Needs Improvement – Gaps in safety, transparency, or clinical standards.
★ Consider Other Options – Not enough evidence, unclear privacy, or poor usability.
-
Apps that score a full five stars receive our SheRanked Approved Gold Badge. This helps app developers stand out from the crowd and makes it easy for women to identify apps that are truly safe, credible, and empowering.
